• Thursday 16 May 2024 2324 Acorn - Lollipop Pheasant This book has lovely illustrations and reminded us how important it is to cross the road safely. We learnt a song which taught us to 'Stop, Think, Listen and Look' before we cross the road. We then went out on our balance bikes and followed a road track, stopping when the 'Lollipop Person' held up their sign to stop the traffic. We also practised walking safely along the pavement (round the track of the field) before going out on an adventure to the meadow. All the children that went listened really well, walked very sensibly, and enjoyed playing under the oak tree. Thank you to Mrs Grey, who kindly accompanied us on Monday.

• Thursday 9 May 2024 2324 Acorn - Postman Bear At last we have some nice warm and sunny weather. This means that our focus has shifted somewhat to outdoor play and experiencing all the fun that our outdoor area has to offer. There has been an outdoor obstacle courses, car tracks and plenty of water play. Everyone feels brighter and livelier and our emotional check in board reveals that most of us are feeling happy (and hungry)! We had the discussion before lunch.

• Thursday 7 March 2024 2324 Acorn - Tidy Our book 'Tidy' tells the story of a badger who is upset by his untidy woodland home. He proceeds to cut down trees and lay concrete in order to tidy it up. It is only then that he realises that he has no food and his friends have nowhere to live. He starts to rebuild the wood, until everything is restored back to normal. This has given us plenty to think about and led to discussion about how we can look after the countryside.

• Wednesday 28 February 2024 Willow wb 26.02.24 This week as part of our Science, the children have been learning about reflective surfaces. We compared light sources and objects that reflect light and described what happens when rays of light hit the objects. We also discussed the difference between opaque, translucent and transparent. The children looked at various objects and sorted them into items with a reflective surface and items that absorb light. We learned that light travels in straight lines and can bounce off objects and reflect back into our eyes. In music we have been appraising and learning to sing a new song called ‘The Dragon Song’. We accompanied this piece with our recorders where we placed G and A by listening carefully.

Our story this week has been The Jolly Christmas Postman and the children have loved turning the role play area into a Christmas post office! Some special helpers were chosen to sort all of the mail delivered into the school post box and deliver them to the right classes. The children have loved getting into the Christmas spirit with lots of nativity rehearsals and activities, as well as starting our class advent calendar! • Wednesday 6 December 2023 2324 Willow wb 04.12.23 It has been another busy week in Willow Class. In our Science lessons, we have been finding out about soil. We began by talking about why soil is important and looked at what soil is made from. We then used the magnifying glasses to look at different soil samples, noticing their differences and similarities. We even found some living creatures in some of the samples! In Music, we've continued with our recorder lessons and this week we learnt the note D. We've been working on playing together as an ensemble and have been practising reading notes on a stave.

• Friday 7 July 2023 Ben runs his first 5K for CASK On Saturday, Ben (Willow Class) will be taking part in the Cheltenham Parkrun as part of the CASK “Race for Research”. A 5km fun run with friends and family to help raise awareness and vital funds for scientific research into the CASK gene disorders for CASK Gene Awareness Day, which is celebrated globally on 15 July. Ben’s little sister Ailla was born with an ultra-rare genetic mutation in her CASK gene, resulting in an even more rare neurological disorder called MICPCH. There are less than 300 cases worldwide! In simple terms, this caused Ailla’s brain to not develop or grow properly, resulting in severe intellectual disability, visual impairments, sleep disorder, development delay, challenges in both her gross and fine motor skills, autism and a lack of communication (non-verbal). Many of the CASK community also suffer the most severe forms of epilepsy and never go on to walk, which means their lives are significantly limited.

• Thursday 6 July 2023 23 Oak Week Beginning 3rd July This week we have completed our summaries of A Midsummers Night Dream, the children did a brilliant job of including al the main events in this very complicated plot. They have enjoyed their first experience of studying a Shakespearean text and I hope it will inspire them to discover others. Our next writing task is to write a balanced argument and we will use our Topic focus - Protecting Our Future (which is all about plastic waste) to construct points for each side of the argument. In Maths we have been converting between different forms of measurement and putting our multiplication and division by 10, 100, and 1000 skills to good use. We have learnt that the prefix 'milli' and 'kilo' refer to the number 1000 which has helped us to remember some of the key facts. We have also been doing our end of term assessments and they showing how hard we have worked to make progress this year.

We explored the definitions of evaporation, condensation, precipitation and accumulation and then created an interactive diagram as a way to explain our knowledge. We learnt about the crucial role the sun plays in our water cycle and how these processes are linked with rivers. Going forward, we are now going to be finding out about the three main stages of a river and which features you are likely to find in each section.

• Thursday 15 July 2021 Key Stage 2 Intra House Rounders Today we had great fun taking part in an intra house rounders tournament trying to win the Rounders House Cup. Ruby House were keen to take the double after their sports day victory yesterday, but the other three houses worked very hard to take the title for themselves!

• Friday 2 July 2021 Bikeability This week the Year 5 children took part in Bikeability - the road safety programme for riding bicycles safely. They worked in small groups and had training sessions on the playground and the roads in the village.  They had a brilliant time and came from each session bursting with enthusiasm and confidence, sharing stories of what the had learnt. They all looked very smart in their cycle helmets and thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
