Oak Week Beginning 30th September 2024
We have started our new writing unit this week and are studying the structure and features of information text. This will cross over with our topic lessons and give us an opportunity to find out more about the Vikings. Our grammar focus will be on using fronted adverbials for both years, with the Year 5's also learning to use modal verbs. Please have a look at home for any non-fiction texts that could support your child's learning, persuade them to read them and ask them to show you the features they can identify which are key to these types of texts.
I took the class for science this week and we had a great time investigating vertebrates and invertebrates. We looked at a range of x-rays on a light box and the children tried to work out what the animals were and whether or not they could spot the backbone. We also had human x-rays showing the bones in the body, focussing on the back bone starting from below the skull, rib cage, and pelvis.
The children in Year 4 and 5 took part in an inter house cross country run at the games field in the village on Tuesday. They ran though the mud to represent their house and (mostly) came back to school with a smile and sense of achievement. Each house had a victory in one of the races which shows how hard each house worked as a team together. The overall winners were Ruby but it was very close. The fastest Year 5 children will represent the school at Prince Henry's school in the next few weeks. Well done to all the children for their resilience and working hard as a team.
