Shaping Bright Futures Together

2425 Holly Class week beginning 9th September

What a week we have had in Holly class! Much of the learning in Holly class this week has been led by the story Supertato and yesterday after breaktime we came back into the classroom to find that Evil Pea had been up to mischief, there were trapped vegetables everywhere! The children went straight into detective mode and drew maps of the classroom to show where all of the evidence was and shared lots of ideas and predictions about what might have happened. The Year 1 children added labels to their map and wrote about what they could see. Many of the children thought it would be a good idea to make and set traps for Evil Pea to see if we could catch him overnight...I wonder if there will be any more mischief over the weekend!

As well as all of this excitement, the children have also started their phonics lessons this week. Year 1 have got straight back to it and have leant two new digraphs, wh and ph. They also learnt to read tricky words oh, their and people. The Reception children have been playing lots of different listening, rhyming and blending games that will help them to tune in when we start learning the letter sounds and blending them together to read.

In maths this week the Year 1 children have been working on place value. They have been working on counting on from any number, not always 0 or 1 as well as recognising numbers as words and finding 1 more. They have done lots of work with bug number lines outside as well as learning to record their maths in their maths books. The Reception children have been learning about sorting objects in different ways thought lots of games and by using the loose parts in our classroom.

It has been lovely to have the Reception children with us all week this week and the children have all enjoyed a visit to the Meadow for Forest School on Tuesday as well as their first full PE lesson. The Year 1 children also completed some artwork and drew some brilliant super veggies! They had to think really carefully about the shapes they were drawing and how they could use pencils and crayons effectively.

Thank you to those of you who were able to come to our Meet the Teacher session on Thursday afternoon. The presentation is on our class page on the website if you were not able to come, do let us know if you have any questions.
