Hawthorn w/b 7th February
We've had another super week of learning in Hawthorn class.
In maths, we've moved on to division by grouping, which is a different way of looking at it. The children have worked hard to develop their skills and carried out some great investigations.
They wrote their own stories in the style of 'Fatou, Fetch the Water on Monday', and we've really enjoyed reading them. They're also learning how to edit and improve their work.
Our topic lesson was all about oceans - they watched snippets from a film and found out key facts about each ocean in turn.
We enjoyed our RE lesson with Holly Year 1s on Tuesday. Last week, we found out all about the Jewish Mezuzah - this week, we discovered that a small piece of paper or parchment is kept inside containing words from the shema, a very special prayer.
In computing, the children practised their drag and drop skills, and had a go at a simple algorithm which involved giving commands to move a bird north, south, east and west - a fantastic link to our topic!
Finally, this week has been 'Mental Health Week' and we have done some lovely activities in class. We have reflected on personal growth to date and dreams for the future. To round of the week, there was the excitement of the Malvern Residential for many of our Year 2 children, and Year 1 children embarked upon a special project with Mrs Holdsworth on Friday, including an exciting visit to the meadow.
Whew - what a busy and exciting week full of learning for all! We are sharing photos of the class activities from earlier in the week and will share photos of the Malvern and Meadow activities seperately.
