Hawthorn wb 14th February
This week has been a week of performing as well as learning!
On Monday the children took part in a school dance festival where each class showed what they have been learning over the last half term in their dance lessons. Hawthorn Class had been developing their own penguin dance and the dance showed them curling up from the egg, huddling together to keep warm and then swimming around in the sea. The children did a fantastic job of moving and displaying their own penguin dance.
On Tuesday the children were lucky enough to watch the Year 5 production in the hall and they thoroughly enjoyed shouting along with the characters, "oh no they didn't!"
It has also been a busy week of learning. In Maths the Y1s have been looking at numbers to 50, making one more and one less and then comparing numbers and objects seeing which are greater than and which are less than or equal to. The Y2s have been sorting odd and even numbers and also have been carrying on with some tricky division!
In Science we have been continuing with our investigations and the children were looking at which materials are flexible and which are rigid. They tried to keep the variables the same and just change the material (wood, metal, plastic and card) and used 100g to see if this would make their material bend.
Finally we have also been looking at being safe on the internet as part of Safer Internet Day. We discussed what the children should do if pictures "pop-up" during their games, what to do if their screen looks "different" and what to do if someone is mean on an on-line game. We also made our own "digital footprint" thinking about the different places that we like to visit online. The children were very sensible and knew that if there were things happening that they didn't like or understand, they should ask for help from an adult.
