Hawthorn Wb 18 November
Year 1s have finished their work on addition and subtraction within 10, while Year 2s have about another week to go. They've been finding 10 more or less than a given number, then developed this learning into adding and subtracting multiples of 10. They've also started work on 2-digit calculations.
In topic, the children found out more about the different sorts of families there are and how they have changed over the years. In Computing, we came to the end of our first unit of work and the children took a little time to think about how to use technology safely, then designed some super posters showing their ideas.
In science, we have been looking at the properties of different materials to see which would be the best material to make an umbrella. The children worked really well in partners to try and see whether the little teddy that was in their container remained dry. Much fun (and learning) was had by all.
We have also just started rehearsals for this year's Nativity performance. Keep a look out for more information soon.
Finally, Mrs Stephenson was back in on Tuesday to complete the next stage of the shoebox project. Our children filled a box each, helped by Oak class pupils who'd set up tables of items around their classroom and supported them in making their choices. What a fantastic project this has been! The children have learnt so much and we'd like to thank Mrs Stephenson for all the hard work she's put into it. We wish her well for the next stage and look forward to hearing how she gets on - and hopefully seeing some photos of our boxes being delivered to children in Romania whose lives are so very different to the ones our children experience here.
