What an exciting week in Holly Class! Our story this week has been monkey puzzle and Reception have enjoyed playing in the zoo with the small world animals, making monkey puppets and even monkey face plates!
In topic this week, the children learnt all about what life would have been like upon the Santa Maria and year 1 had a go at drawing their own recreation of the boat.
In phonics, Reception were introduced to the sounds ck, e, u, r and the tricky words no and go. Year 1 were introduced to the digraph ea, e-e and ie alongside tricky words do some come and were.
In literacy this week, Reception wrote a sentence about the monkey from the story, coming up with their own word to describe him. They also practiced writing CVC words to match pictures, and even wrote a sentence about Jack and the Beanstalk with close support and modelling! Year 1 have spent this week writing independently, retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk using our story map. Everyone has worked so hard!
In maths, Reception have been exploring the concepts ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ and comparing groups of objects based on physical attributes such as colour, shape and size. Year 1 have continued their work on number sentences, using numicon and 10 frames to find number bonds up to 10.
We had a very exciting visit from ‘Skippy John’ on Tuesday and the children absolutely loved hopping over and running away from the ‘snakes’. They also learnt how to skip with a long rope and join into a skip. We are very excited to see the children show off their new skills in the playground!
Have a great weekend everyone! Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt
