Oak Week Beginning 22nd January2024
This week we have been busy planning our suspense and mystery story's, using The Shadow Cage as a pattern. Instead of finding a mystery bottle and hiding under the shadows created by a climbing frame, the children have been getting their creatives juices flowing to change these details to plan their own story. In Maths we have moved on from multiplication to division learning how to into practice our times tables knowledge once again.
In Science this week the children learnt about the anatomy of a tooth and were able to label a diagram of all its constituent parts. They now know some new scientific words for some very familiar features. They also learnt how food and drink can affect some of these parts of our teeth and start to attract bacteria and eventually tooth decay. They drew some concept cartoons to explain how this happens.
This week was Internet Safety Week in our school and we have been completing various activities throughout the week to remind us how to stay safe online. The children were very knowledgeable, and impressed me with their sensible attitude towards their online activities. In art we continued to investigate different printing techniques and did a direct comparison between a leaf print and a potato print of a leaf design. The potato prints were more successful as a general rule, and it was all good practise for our big printing project using lino coming up in the next few weeks.
A large group of children took part in the Open The Book story this week all about John the Baptist. Look in the gallery for a picture of them in their costumes.
