Acorn Handa's Surprise
We went on safari this week! Using our homemade binoculars, we searched high and low for animals and were delighted by what we found. We used our Handa's Surprise small play area to count and sort different fruits, and then recreate the story in our puppet theatre. The fruit became focus for our phonics, with the children identifying different ones by their initial sound. We have also been using our sense of smell to recognise the fruits by their scent.
We played a safari based maths game, with the children moving between different shapes (star, triangle, square and circle) and imitating African animals as they do so. We looked at the work of Guiseppe Acimboldo who used fruits, vegetables and flowers to create imaginative portraits of people. We then produced our own masterpieces!
