Hawthorn wb 24th June
We've been so impressed with the children this week who've continued their learning despite the heady temperatures!
We've done quite a bit of topic work to help them develop their understanding of their place in the world in relation to local geography. Following our earlier walk around the village, the children had a go at creating a map of Ashton using a key and really enjoyed making a 'Me on the Map' hanging device. We stayed closer to home on Tuesday to develop our sketching skills on the school grounds.
Year 1s have begun their learning about money and enjoyed a guessing game with Mrs Harrigan, who gave them a series of clues to help them identify mystery coins. Year 2s have been looking at calculations involving money, as well as the everyday skill of giving change.
In RE, we're continuing our work on sacred places and have now turned our attention to synagogues. The children took a look at some of their features then completed a labelling activity to check what they remembered.
Wednesday was transition morning, and all the children enjoyed spending time in their new classes - whether they're in Hawthorn or Willow.
In Science, we began an investigation to see the effect of different conditions on the growth of plants. The children put cress seeds in the sunlight with and without water, with and without a tissue to grow on, in the dark and in the dark and cold. We will be following the growth of these plants over the next couple of weeks.
Finally, we had a lovely afternoon at Forest School on Friday. We looked at different plants to link in with our Science topic, played with our friends and had a thoroughly great time.
