Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn Wb 04 December

Christmas is fast approaching and we're almost ready for our Nativity performances. Thank you all for your support with costumes, learning lines and encouragement. Fingers crossed it will be alright on the night!
Meanwhile, the children have almost finished their booklets based on 'What Happens When'. They've done a lot of work on accurate sentence-writing, particularly focusing on capital letters and end marks. But there's also been a lot of imagination and creativity involved in the process!
And speaking of creativity, this week's digital art was inspired by the pointillist styles of Kandinsky and Van Gogh - and the children produced some lovely results using a range of software tools.
In maths, Year 1s are now working on numbers within 20 while Year 2s are developing a range of strategies for addition and subtraction - using Rekenreks, Base 10 and number lines.
The history of cars was our subject in topic this week, and the children learnt about their development over a period of several hundred years, from the early ideas of inventors like Leonardo da Vinci through to modern day driverless vehicles.
In PE, the children have been showing off their gymnastic skills again.  Have a look at the photos to see their wonderful star shapes that they made with their partners.
Finally, we have been looking at the seasons in Science and the children reviewed the weather that we have plotted over a 4 week period in Autumn.  We then made pictograms to show which weather was the most common in that month.  Later in the year we will do this again and compare the different seasons and we will discuss what weather was the most common, I think it is probably rain at the moment!
