Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Hawthorn wb 3rd July

The highlight of this week was, of course, Sports Day, have a look at the separate blog, but there's been a lot of other stuff going on as well!
We've started a new poetry unit in English all about the seaside. We began with a lovely book called, 'Where the forest meets the sea' by Jeannie Baker, which brings together visions of the past, present and future, and explores the impact of mankind on a prehistoric rainforest in Australia. The children enjoyed reading the text and looking at the pictures, particularly when they discovered some secret creatures hidden within them!
In maths, the Y1s have started worked on Place Value within 100 while Y2s are finishing off their work on Time.
In topic, we found out all about islands, and the children used maps to locate some well-known islands around the coast of Britain. We also had a look at similarities and differences between the seaside of the past and today.
In science, we continued with our work on plants and the children were looking for clues as to whether plants were healthy or unhealthy and why that might be.
Finally, we looked at different types of plants that might be grown as food and then we designed our own farm layout, deciding what we might grow on our own farms!
