Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 5th June 2023

Our first week back to this final half term has been filled with lots of exciting activities.

Our new text in English is A Midsummers Night's Dream, we have been familiarising ourselves with the text and getting our heads around the twists and turns of the plot. The characters really sparked the interest of the children and they are enjoying the challenge of the Shakespearean language (if simplified a little). Our new book for Guided Reading lessons and for the end of the day is called Which Way To Anywhere and is the latest released from author Cressida Cowell, the children, at this point in the story, are full of intrigue about how the plot will develop. In Maths we have started our new topic using decimals and we have been using our number sense skills to recall number bonds to 10, 100, 1000 to help them with this.

In other lessons we have done our final experiment in Science to investigate sound proofing and tested which materials would block the vibrations from travelling to our ears. The cotton material, bubble wrap and the lid for the plastic box, which we tested them all in, came out as the best materials. Have look in the gallery for our full results. We also finished off the art work we started before half term where we were trying to create an impressionist style piece based on another one of Monet's paintings. They used pastels to finish the details which added the paint effects they used previously. They were very successful check out the examples in the gallery.

The finale to the week was a really successful Topic Day on Friday where we joined up with Willow class to create 3D models of a river, highlighting some of their key features. The children worked brilliantly in their pairs to create the playdough for their models and then piece them together to show features such as waterfalls and meanders. They had to consider how they would represent the difference between the upper, middle and lower course as well as adding in vegetation along the way. They worked very hard and enjoyed an off time table day.
