Willow wb 23.09.24
This week as part of our Science work, Willow class completed their research of the 5 main animal categories. The children organised their information into a table and found an animal to include in each group. The class worked really well and used what they had learned the previous week. Next week, we will learn about sorting animals into groups depending on their diet and we will explore vertebrates and invertebrates.
In English lessons, the children planned and wrote their own mythical quest using the story ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’ as inspiration. We learned about the structure of a quest using our knowledge of this text to create our own ‘problem’ and ‘resolution’. The class created their own monster for this quest and labelled with new vocabulary we have learned from the text. The children worked well to write their own story remembering the structure and use of expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to write more complex, detailed sentences.
In Maths the children have started their topic on addition and subtraction where we have used known number facts and apply them to trickier calculations. We have been using our knowledge of place value to help us add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s. The class have also been practising the number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 using maths games to help our fluency.
Our Topic lesson this week was based on the Viking raid at Lindisfarne and we looked into two different versions of events, considering which we thought to be most accurate and why. This was linked to our key question all about how the Vikings got their reputation as raiders and led us to reflect on how they lived.
