Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 01.07.24

This week as part of our work in Computing, the children used Turtle Logo to create various regular polygons. We used trial and error to explore different codes to draw 2D shapes experimenting with angles size and side length.  The children worked well together to move the turtle and change the colour of the shapes. We also drew polygons in one of our Maths lessons, recapping the vocabulary of parallel, perpendicular, regular and irregular. The children did a great job at drawing accurately and identifying the different angles.

In Writing lessons, the class have explored the story Romulus and Remus. We read the story as a class and used a story board to remember the order of the story with a partner. The children then took part in a whole class drama activity to help them recall the story. We then used dialogue to help us build tension between the two brothers as they made a decision as to which piece of land they built on. We explored the use of short sentences and punctuation to create effect too.

In our Topic lesson, we found out about why the Roman empire came to an end. We found out that the Barbarians had been looting the treasures of Ancient Rome and,  alongside the cost of maintaining the empire with it's growing army, became too much. Our task was to identify six main reasons for the empire coming to an end and creating picture clue cards for our partners to identify the reason.

In our Reading lesson we started exploring the poetry book 'Cloud Busting' and considered our first impressions of the characters based on what we had inferred. We enjoyed listening to and discussing the different styles of poem within the book as well as the humour which runs throughout the poems.
