Willow wb 11.09.23
Willow class have started their new Science topic 'Animals including Humans' this week. We began by thinking about what we would like to find out about and came up with some great questions. We then looked at the different food groups before going outside to create a human pictogram which showed how many portions of each food group we need every day. In Music, we did some work on rhythm and pulse before starting to learn our new song, 'Let Your Spirit Fly'. Everyone tried really hard with this and we had some beautiful singing!
The children were all very excited to get their own Art sketch book now that they are in KS2 and made a fantastic start to their work on sketching and drawing skills in this weeks lesson. As well as exploring different shading techniques and creating texture, we will be doing a weekly starter to help us to draw animals, people and characters. We looked at the illustrator and author Rob Biddulph who works through a series of short instructions to help the children create different illustrations and they all did such a fantastic job of following the instructions to create their character.
We have been focusing on place value of numbers up to 1000 in our Maths lessons in order to read, recognise place value and partition these three digit values. We completed a set of 'follow me' cards to match up different representations of numbers and found how many different ways we could make a total. It was great to see lots of accurate partitioning and confident reading aloud of these numbers.
In our Reading lesson we have continued to read 'Stig' and are building up a picture of what his home looks like and the type of character he is. We had a vocabulary focus this week whereby we had to match up synonymns for new vocabulary from the text. We started using the thesaurus to come up with our own examples too. Willow class have had a busy second week back and it is fantastic to see them working so hard.
