Shaping Bright Futures Together

Acorn 25 Paddington

We have focused on the Paddington stories.  We have looked at a map to find out where Peru (Paddington's home) is and thought about the ways in which he could have got to England.  We decided that flying in an airplane would be the best method and this has opened up the 'Around the World' topic for the rest of term. We have learnt about different types of airplanes and what a visit to an airport would be like. We have also had a go at flying a paper airplane.

Each week we will be travelling in our role play airplane to a different part of the world to hear a traditional story and find about life there.  This week, we have been learning about London.  We have looked at some of the iconic buildings and discussed what they are.  Each child now has a 'passport', in which we can record their travels. In maths, we have been looking at shapes and the way in which they join together.  Using the blocks, we have made a city scene of tall buildings houses and even an airplane. We have also had great fun building and testing a marble run.

Paddington enjoys a marmalade sandwich, so we had a go at making our own jam sandwiches.  Everyone participated and most children ate them.  We have also helped Paddington pack his suitcase by identifying the contents by their initial sound.
