Oak Week Beginning 11th March 2024
We have had much more time in usual lessons this week and but still had time for some extra fun too.
In maths we are coming to the end of our fractions topic and have made some great progress with our skills, using some very tricky methods, which we have used across lots of different situations. In our Writing lessons we have merged with our topic learning, as we are in the process of writing a leaflet about the advantages and disadvantages of living near to an active volcano. We needed the background information so we could apply our persuasive writing skills to create some fascinating and informative information. We will finish these off next week.
This week has been Science Week nationally, but we are going to have our own next term as we have had lots to squeeze in in this very short term. So instead of going all out, we have done some mini experiments each day and taken part in another STEM workshop which showed us an insight in to the 'factory of the future.' The children have really enjoyed learning the chemistry and physics behind the mini experiments: what gas is produced when you mix vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, what surface tension is and how you can change it and what happens when air expands and contracts in an enclosed space. Apologies in advance if they start routing through your cupboards for the ingredients to repeat these experiments at home! It was exciting stuff. In their science lesson with Mrs Clements the children labelled the different parts of the eye and investigated what refraction was.
On Friday they all looked a little different, bringing a bit of their own personality into school through the clothes they wore. They all looked very colourful! They had a nice treat of having Mrs Stephenson as their teacher for the day too, which made it extra special for them.
