This week as part of our Science lesson, the children explored vertebrates and invertebrates. The class looked at several x-rays (real ones!) to identify the difference between these two animal groups. We sorted the x-rays and discussed what makes a creature a vertebrate or invertebrate and found examples of each. Take a look at some of our photos of the children using a light box to take a closer look at the x-rays. In music lessons, the children listened to music by ABBA and have started to learn the verse and chorus for the song ‘Mamma Mia’.
In English lessons this week, the children have been practising sentence writing by editing and improving. We explored various word classes and grouped words together based on their function in a sentence. The children worked well to create more complex sentences by varying their word choices and vocabulary. The class also had an opportunity to apply their knowledge of conjunctions and used these to extend a sentence. In maths lessons, the children in Year 4 have learned about rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 using 5 as the magic number! The Year 3 children have been learning how to cross 10 and 100 using their knowledge of number bonds. We have also practised number bonds to 20 and 100 using various maths games.
In our Topic lessons we have been exploring what Anglo Saxon Britain looked like as a way of learning about why the Vikings invaded Britain. We learnt about the homes they lived in, how they farmed the land and how this looked different from the Roman influences previously. The children had a section of a picture of an Anglo Saxon village and they had to complete the image with their understanding of how these people lived. We then went on to take on the roles of different members in Viking society, thinking about why they invaded.
