Holly Class week beginning 25th November
Things are certainly starting to feel festive in Holly Class and our nativity rehearsals are in full swing! The children have been very excited to find our the parts they will be playing and have really impressed us by how quickly they are learning the songs. This week we have also made some beautiful decorations that will be for sale at the Christmas Fayre on Friday 6th December.
In drawing club this week we have been reading 'Home' by Carson Ellis, it has some beautiful illustrations that the children have enjoyed exploring and imagining who might live in the different homes. The Reception children have started labelling their drawings and the Year 1 children have been writing setting descriptions to practise the sentence skills we have been working on over the last couple of weeks.
In maths this week the Reception children have been learning about squares and rectangles, they have been spotting them around us in the environment, describing them using good mathematical vocabulary and comparing them. The Year 1 children have finished their addition and subtraction unit and done a little recap of the trickier bits so that they are ready to move on to the next thing!
We had a beautiful, cold, bright winter's day for forest school on Friday afternoon, what a treat! We went with the Acorn children up to the meadow, drank hot chocolate to warm up and enjoyed exploring the hollow tree, something we had been talking about earlier in the week when we had read 'Home' and spotted a mole in a hollow tree. After lots of concentration and focus whilst learning lines and songs for our nativity, it was just what everyone needed!
