23 Hawthorn wb 11th September
A second busy week in Hawthorn class! The children have settled in well and are getting used to all the new routines.
In English, we have been working on our the book, I Love Bugs and the children have been finding adjectives to describe different insects that we see. The Year 2s have developed noun phrases including commas and the Year 1s have added adjectives to their sentences.
In Maths, we are continuing with work on place value. The Year 1 children have been using different resources to count numbers up to 10 and how to represent them in different ways including pictures and words. The Year 2 children have been continuing with bigger numbers using place value charts and partitioning numbers on part whole diagrams using the tens and ones to make different numbers.
We started our new topic on Explorers and the children shared their current knowledge about explorers and then discussed what they would like to find out during the topic.
In Science, we found out about the five senses and the children went out into the playground on a senses hunt to see what they could hear, see, touch and smell - we had already decided that it would not be wise or safe to go around tasting things, so we will save that sense for another lesson!
