Willow wb 18.11.24
Willow class have been completing their art project this week which has involved working together to create large display size dragon heads that could be displayed on a Viking longship. We have used our sketching skills including hatching and stippling to add tone to the dragon's head as well as collage to create the textured appearance of dragon scales. We were really impressed with the finished effect and the children worked really effectively together.
On Monday, we started our new science topic based on Forces and Motion. We learned what a force is and the impact gravity has. We sorted forces into pushes and pulls. Mrs Clements used a ramp and a selection of different textured balls to show that friction is a force that opposes motion and can slow things down or stop them from moving. We learned that in a frictionless world, more objects would be sliding about, clothes and shoes would be difficult to keep on and it would be problematic for people or cars to get moving or change direction. We experimented with different balls to observe the speed and distance that they rolled down a ramp.
In English the children completed their poetry unit using the text ‘The Lost Words’ We were inspired by this book to create our own acrostic poem about a robin. The children wrote their own expanded noun phrases to describe the appearance of a robin. In maths, the children have been learning about the meaning of inverse and how we can use this to help us with our multiplication and division skills. We have been practising the 3, 4, 9 and 6 times tables.
In our Reading lesson we have started looking more closely at playscripts and used our VIPERS skills to pick out new vocabulary as well as develop our summary skills.
