Hawthorn Wb 29th April
We've started a lovely new book this week called, 'Wanted, the Perfect Pet', which we have to admit is one of our favourites and the children always produce some fantastic writing inspired by it. We began by getting the children to choose a pet that they'd really like to have. They drew a picture of it and then came up with some reasons why it'd be the perfect pet for them. They went on to write a short story about how a child might persuade their parents to get them a pet (sorry folks!). We've subsequently spent some time exploring and learning the text (with actions) and next week, we'll turn our attention to some of the grammatical skills that can be found in the story.
Year 1s have finished their Multiplication and Division unit in maths with lots of sorting into equal parts by grouping and sharing. Year 2s have been exploring thirds, how to find the whole and unit fractions.
In RE, we continue to explore sacred places, and have now started learning about mosques. The children watched a clip showing what can be found inside a mosque and then spent some time studying a photo pack to look at these features in more detail.
In topic, we created a class timeline about the events of the Great Fire of London and began an investigation into the best sources of historical evidence about what happened.
We continued with our swimming sessions this week and the children listened really well and had a great time improving their water skills.
In Science, we were investigating the offspring of different animals, deciding which group of the animal kingdom they belonged to and then what the babies were called. This fitted in really well with a quick trip to Holly classroom to see the newly hatched chicks. Very exciting.
