Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 24 Hawthorn wb 6th May

Goodness - we've packed a lot into the four-day week after Bank Holiday Monday!

In English, we've continued our work on 'The Perfect Pet', focusing our attention on how to use commas in a list. The children have created their own doggy descriptions and expanded their knowledge of punctuation in the process. Next week, we'll look at noun phrases before moving on to some practice writing.

Year 1s have begun their work on fractions by exploring halves of shapes and objects before finding half of small amounts. Year 2s have been learning about non-unit fractions and the equivalence of half and two quarters.

In topic, the children created their own timelines in which they sequenced the key events of the Great Fire, and also found out about Samuel Pepy's and his infamous buried cheese!

In Science we have been continuing with our work on animals and the children have been making their own animal life cycles.  We discussed how some babies start out like a smaller version of the parent and others are completely different and go through metamorphosis to become their adult form.

A real highlight of the week (especially for Miss Miller!) was when Jack's parents visited to show us how horses are shod. We joined with Holly and Acorn classes for a very informative session. The children absolutely loved it and learned a lot in the process. Huge thanks, once again, to Jack's parents for giving up their precious time and bringing their lovely pony with them for the demonstration.
