Hawthorn wb 13th June
Well, it has been getting hotter and stickier in Hawthorn class this week, and not just the weather!
In English the children have been continuing to learn about instruction texts and they finally got to put instructions into action and made slime!
Each child had their own pot and followed instructions mixing PVA glue, bicarbonate of soda and eyewash to make their own stretchy slime. Some slime was sticky, some rubbery, some were very stretchy but all of it was lots of fun!
In Maths we have been working hard on our understanding of time and comparing hours, minutes and seconds as well as telling the time to 5 minutes.
In Computing we have been using the Scratch programming software and have been developing our own algorithms to move a sprite around.
We have been continuing with our work on plants in Science and the children have been looking at evergreen and deciduous trees and looking at the structure of the leaves of these different types of plant.
Finally we had a Topic day on Monday where Hawthorn and Holly classes made maps of Ashton Under Hill and looked at the physical and human features of our village. The children also caught up with Matt Peacey who came in to tell the children about his trip to Nepal. He told them about his work and the children thought about the similarities and differences between our village and that of Gokyo in Nepal.
