Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn Wb 02 December

We were so impressed with the stories the children wrote this week based on the book 'Stuck' by Oliver Jeffers. It really captured their imagination and we were thrilled to see them using some of the rich vocabulary and grammatical techniques to be found in the book. Whoever would have thought that an elephant or the Titanic might get stuck down a drain?

In maths, Year 1s have continued their work on place value within 20 while Year 2s have moved on to subtraction of two 2-digit numbers.

We're coming to the end of our topic now and most of the children have presented their family trees. We'll share a photo of our class display next week. On Monday,  they created timelines of their own lives depicting some of the key events so far. We also finished our RE topic and will spend the last couple of weeks finding out more about the story of the nativity. And speaking of the nativity, needless to say, there have been lots of rehearsals and if you're able to attend, we think you'll be in for a festive treat!

In science, we have been completing our topic on materials and the children worked hard on a quiz to see what they had learned and what they could remember.  What fantastic scientists they are!

Finally, we've also completed our first Christmas Crafts project when the children made beautiful wreaths to decorate your home and also some special items that you will be able to purchase at this week's Christmas Fayre.  We look forward to seeing you there.
