Shaping Bright Futures Together

2425 Holly Class week beginning 14th October

It has been a super week for Superworm in Holly class this week! The children have enjoyed reading, sharing and retelling the story, Superworm, they have designed and built bases for Superworm to come up with his super plans, they have invented a monster that might come to cause mischief for Superworm and finally they thought about ways of trapping and stopping that monster! The Reception children have been writing 3 letter 'code words' using the sounds they have learnt in phonics and the Year 1 children have been really carefully thinking about using their phonics skills in their writing this week.

In maths the Year 1 children have continued their work on number bonds, this week looking more specifically at number bonds to 10. They have shown them using tens frames and numicon, practising recognising and writing them as number sentences and also thought about how they can write them systematically so that they don't miss any out. We will continue to revise and revisit number bonds to 10 over the coming weeks using lots of games so that they become easy for the children to recall and use in their up and coming maths work.

The Reception children have been working on subitising numbers to 3 this week and have played lots of games saying the amount they see quickly without counting. They have also met (and made their own versions of) number blocks 1, 2 and 3 and we have looked at their homes noticing how we know which one each number block lives in.

In the classroom this week there has been lots of lovely small world play using the bugs and jelly worms as well as exploring an autumn tuff tray following an autumn treasure hunt at forest school on Tuesday.

The Year 1 children have continued their history learning and have pulled together everything they have learnt about Florence Nightingale by writing a new plaque for the statue of her in London!

On Friday we had a very Christmassy afternoon that was possibly a little ahead of time! It was our turn to make some Christmas cards that you will have the chance to buy so we fully embraced the festive cheer whilst we got creative!
