Condover Day 2
Today we have redefined the phrase 'action packed'!!!
Our day started with breakfast at 7:15 (if you discount the early risers at 5:25), and the food was "epic". Bacon, beans, scrambled egg, a huge selection of cereal, toast and fruit and yogurt and the highlight, waffles. It was a very substantial way to start the day. Very soon after we launched into the first activities. We had climbing, abseiling and team games followed by Gladiator wall and survival skills. We had more opportunities to practise putting on harnesses and worked together as teams to support those who were climbing, descending or dangling from a rope!! We were extremely impressed by their bravery, camaraderie and agility. They were climbing up the ropes and walls in a flash oozing confidence and pride when they reached the top.
Lunch soon came around and we ate very well again. Giant rolls filled with pulled pork or nuggets and chips; food heaven! Where they keep putting all this food we don't quite know!!
Our first activity of the afternoon session was kayaking, so we had a quick change into swimming costumes, shorts and t-shirts ready to set sail!! There was even more equipment to wear for this activity as we were squeezed into waterproofs and buoyancy aids. After a quick 'Team Ashton' photo we headed to the lake. The setting was stunning and the lake was glistening in the sunlight, a perfect afternoon for a paddle! We were 2 to a kayak and had an absolute blast getting to grips with going forwards and backwards and it took a huge amount of concentration and cooperation to know our left from right!! There were a few boats that went adrift into the reeds at first but we quickly got the hang of it. The instructors, with their endless energy, guided through some fun games and we all got a bit soggy but no one fell in - success!
Before we knew it, it was tea time and nearly all our activities were completed for the day. Again, the food was spectacular, there were lots of happy, hungry children eating pizza and wedges with the most delicious cheese cake for dessert - they have really enjoyed their meals, even the ones who were a little more discerning in their choices!!
Our evening activity was a really enjoyable mini Olympics where each team completed against the other in a variety of sports. Group 2, 'The Golden Eagles', were the victorious winners.
After the excitement of our first night, the children were feeling very tired and settled down to sleep really quickly. It's all quiet as I type, they are recharging their batteries to be raring to go for the remaining activities before we head home.
Our time has flown and we've made the most of every minute - its exhausting to think back to what we have done!!
