Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Holly Class W/B 17th July 2023

Just like that the final week is over!

In phonics this week reception have played lots of exciting games that test their phoneme recognition, as well as applying these to words. Year 1 have recapped the phonemes, ue, e-e and ey, as well as playing lots of tricky word bingo!

In maths this week Reception have recapped the concepts more, less and equal when comparing quantities and have had lots of fun playing the interactive number block game! Year 1 have concluded their work on time by identifying hours and half hours on the clock.

In English this week we have enjoyed reading our final book ‘the rainbow fish’ and completing lots of fish themed activities. Reception have completed their best handwriting piece using an extract from the book and year 1 have had a go at writing their own free verse poems from the perspective of the rainbow fish! They were brilliant at thinking of lots of descriptive words for the fish, the ocean and the cave and using these within their writing.

The Reception children have collected trinkets from home to put inside their time capsule and buried them in the school grounds. They also made their end of year self-portraits, what a long way they have come since their beginning of year portraits!

On Wednesday morning the children went on a whole school walk alongside their classmates and buddies and had a play in the meadow as part of our end of year celebrations. As always it was lovely to see how this brought everyone together and how nicely everyone played together.

It was also the year 5 leavers assembly on Thursday afternoon and whilst this was a sad time for all of the children in Holly, it left us feeling incredibly proud of how far they have come. We wish them all the best of luck and can’t wait to hear the wonderful things they get up to next!

Thank you all for such an amazing year. It has been lovely to see how all of the children in Holly have grown in confidence and developed their own unique and beautiful personalities. Whether they will be part of Holly or Hawthorn Class for 23/24, we can’t wait to see how they progress and flourish as year 1 and year 2!

Have a well- rested holiday everyone, you deserve it very much.

On behalf of the whole Holly Class team we wanted to thank you very much for the lovely cards and gifts we have received across the week, we appreciate the time and thought that has gone into these!

All the best, Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt
