23 Holly Class W/B 2nd October 2023
What an exciting week it has been! Our intrepid explorer for this week has been Mary Kingsley and the children learnt all about her travels to Africa. The children enjoyed reading through the book ‘Uncommon Traveller’ and finding out about her encounter with a crocodile, whirlpools and a spike filled pit! Year 1 thought of questions they would like to ask Kingsley and reception enjoyed lots of African themed activities throughout the week.
In phonics, year 1 were introduced to the digraph ‘wh’. Keep an eye out and see if you can spot any words starting with ‘wh’ over the weekend. Reception were introduced to phonemes g o c and k and used these to write simple CVC words.
In maths, year 1 ordered different numbers from smallest to greatest and used number lines to compare numbers. Reception explored how numbers can be composed of 1s and, from this, began to investigate the composition of 3 and 4.
In english, we read the stories of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Jack and the Beanstalk. Reception sequenced and drew pictures to retell the stories. Year 1 began their topic on predictable phrases by sequencing pictures and using the story sack to role play the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
In forest school this week, the children talked all about what it means to be a good friend and how we can be a good friend for others if they are feeling sad.
See you next week! Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt
