Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 13th January 2025

This week has been a very work focussed and we have been working extremely hard to keep on track with the learning.

In Maths Y4 have been developing their use of the place value chart to explain what happens to numbers when they are multiplied by 10 and 100 and divided by 10 and 100. They have been applying this skill to a variety of different situations, developing their arithmatic and problem solving skills. Year 5 have been continuing to add and subtract fractions, converting the amounts so they have the same common denominators, quite a tricky skill! They have been applying this to improper fractions and mixed numbers. I am very proud of how they have shown resilience with these skills and their hard work is showing good progress for many.

We have continued to write poetry this week, using Pie Corbett as our inspiration. HIs poem 'When I blew the magic dust' has allowed us to write using; alliteration, personification and like and as similes. The children have enjoyed being creative and using their imaginations to create some really good final poems. Year 5 have been working hard with their rehearsals for the play, some now know their lines without the script! We have started to learn the words to the songs and perfect some dance moves too - the Tango here we come!

In Topic lessons we have improved our knowledge of the local area and have written a detailed description of Worcestershire, where it is and what it has to offer. In Art we have continued to develop our use of perspective and used different techniques to improve our watercolour painting. The children added salt, used bubble wrap and cling film to create different textures in the finish of their painting. They also experimented with a 'wet on wet' approach that requires layering of different colours whist the paints are wet to create interesting textures.
