The Storm Whale and The Storm Whale in Winter
The Storm Whale stories tells the most beautiful tale of a friendship between a little boy and a whale. We built a boat for our role play area, and collaged a whale to decorate a board. We listened to Elgar's Nimrod music and imagined whales swimming in the sea, and later painted with our hands as we listened to the piece. We also played our own musical instruments and had to watch the direction of the conductor, to find out when to play and when to stop, when to play fast and when to play slowly. Noi, the little boy from the focus story tries to look after the whale at home.
Nugget the guinea pig and Jiggy the budgerigar came into school again this week and we discussed what we would need to keep the pets happy and healthy. We have also been talking about 'internet safety'. Most of the children have access to a phone or tablet, and we discussed what to do if we saw something that frightened us.
In Maths, we have had a real focus on counting. The abacus is a really useful piece of equipment, as the beads can be physically moved as they are counted. We have also been discussing some of the key words that some children have missing from their vocabulary e.g. dry and wet, full and empty.
There are lots of photos on the blog this week. Some of the children did Forest School with Holly Class last Friday. We talked about Winter changes and enjoyed a hot chocolate by a campfire.
