Oak ... and there goes the Spring Term!
There are lots of tired little faces in Oak Class this week, but we've still been very busy!
On Monday, we played the magnet games that we had designed last week. The children had lots of fun using their skills and understanding of magnetic forces to try to win.
On Tuesday the Year 4 children joined the Willow Year 4's to take part in an art project run by the Evesham Abbey Trust. They are running a music and art project depicting the history of the abbey. Artist in residence Michelle is working with several local schools and our Year 4's were lucky to be involved. They produced artwork based on the life of monks during the dissolution of the monasteries, using drawing, colour and collage. Their work will be transferred to material making a banner and a monk’s habit which will be on display in the Almonry Museum, Evesham. We will let you know when the final work is on display.
We got the watercolours out again on Wednesday and Thursday to continue to develop our colour mixing skills and use of tone. We also used these skills to create an egg with a marble effect in our art books. The children used a range of tones of one colour to create the effects. They looked absolutely lovely and showed some great progression of their painting skills and use of this media.
A large group were missing from Oak class on Thursday as they went to Evesham Leisure Centre with Mrs Thornton and Mrs Clayton to take part in the Small Schools Swimming Gala, they came back with amazing news, check out the Blog for this in the main news feed, here Ashton Under Hill First School - Key Stage 2 Small Schools Swimming Gala
Our special Easter assembly in the church on Friday made a very welcome return to the Spring Term calendar. Oak Class retold the meaning of Easter and explained why hot cross buns have crosses and why we eat chocolate eggs. It was really great to see so many parents, sharing our performances and all sing together. Later in the morning we all took part in the Great Easter Egg Hunt around the playground. The Year 5's partnered up with their buddies and had lots of fun running around, trying to find the eggs. Great glee was seen in the eating part too. For the rest of the day, Oak had a challenge - The Flying Egg Challenge. In this they had to plan and create something to protect a chickens egg from breaking when dropped from a height of 2.5 mtrs.
We dropped each creation with much egg-citement and all but two eggs miraculously survived!! As they were so successful we launched into phase 2. Task one was to roll the egg and those that survived were then thrown to see whose travelled the furthest. The victorious pair were Alistair and Indie who won 25 points for their house!! Much fun was had by all – a great way to spend our last afternoon together.
Have a very Happy Easter everyone, stay safe and see you in 2 weeks.
