Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class week beginning 1st July

It is such a busy time in school at the moment and the children are taking everything in their stride and doing brilliantly. As well as our usual phonics, English and Maths learning, there have been some extra special things happening in school this week.

On Tuesday it was Sports Day and everyone had a brilliant day wearing their house colours, running races and completing activities. Such a lot of fun was had by all! Thank you to everyone who was able to come and support the children and who joined us for picnic lunch. Do have a look at the separate Sports Day blog for more photos.

On Wednesday afternoon we were treated to a performance of the Year 5 play, Goodbye my Friend. We thought it was absolutely brilliant and the children all came back to the classroom humming the songs and the Reception children in particular were so proud of their buddies! Each Reception child made a 'Golden Holly Leaf Award' to present to their buddy for such superb acting and singing.

In PE this week the children carried out an investigation looking at the impact of exercise on their heart rate. After thinking about why exercise is so important they looked at some different activities and made a prediction about what they thought would happen before trying it. Afterwards they reflected on the impact it had had on their body as well as considering other things they can do to keep healthy. It was also the final swimming session for Year 1 this week. All of the Year 1 children have made such great progress with their swimming skills over the past few weeks, we are very proud of them!

On Friday afternoon it was our turn to go up to Forest School with Mrs Shiels. The story that has been leading our learning this week is called Harry's Hazelnut which is a lovely story about a tree through time. Harry likes to build and play in dens by his tree so the children were excited to have the opportunity to try this out for themselves! It was great to see some super teamwork and wonderfully creative ideas.
