Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn Wb 27th January

This week in Hawthorn class there's been a big focus on 'all things Antarctica'!

In English, we've been looking at verbs, conjunctions and adverbs - all while writing about penguins! Meantime in topic, we found out some amazing facts about Antarctica. Did you know that it's actually the world's biggest desert?

Year 1s have been finding doubles and near doubles in maths, while Year 2s have finished their work on shape and moved on to multiplication and division. Not long now till we start on times tables which they're all very excited about!

In Computing, we took a look at the sort of IT that might be found in supermarkets and the children pretended to be a till, using 'barcodes' and a 'scanner' to determine the prices of a range of everyday items. We also thought about E-Safety, which we'll be looking at in more detail during Safer Internet Week starting on Monday.

In Science we have become minibeast hunters (quite tricky in January) where we were looking for different insects in microhabitats e.g. under a log or in long grass.  We had a great time finding lots of little creatures that weren't hibernating!
