Oak Week Beginning 15th April 2024
This week has been another busy one; the Oak Class children have been involved in many exciting enrichment tasks this week. Many were involved in the handball tournament and the swimming gala and all took part in cricket coaching sessions run by a specialist coach from Worcestershire County Cricket.
We programmed the micro:bits for the first investigation that we need to do towards the gathering all the playground survey data. This week we made it into a thermometer and used it to measure surface temperatures. The children selected 4 different surfaces: 2 natural and 2 man-made to test. The children had to record each test for 1 minute and get 3 consistent results before moving onto their next test. In next weeks lesson we will collate our results and move onto the next test - measuring the area of the playground space.
As part of our poetry study we have been wowing lots of staff with our ability to perform the Jabberwocky without needing any words! The children have been really captured by the story it tells and the challenge to put it to memory. We created a video of each year group performing the poem, different verses by different groups. Have a look at the links on this page to view what we created. We have also been writing our own versions of this poem changing the settings and characters and using nonsense words.
We also started our new topic: What Have The Romans Done For Us? This week we investigated why Julius Caesar failed twice to conquer England and argued whether or not Claudius should have tried again 97 years later. During a role play activity, the children made their arguments for and against an English invasion, with myself taking on the role of Claudius waiting to be convinced. Just as events evolved in reality, the children persuaded Claudius to invade and the rest, as they stay is history, which is what we will learn about over the next few weeks. Those who didn't go to the gala enjoyed an morning of art, making Roman army shields wen selected hich have formed the stunning centre piece of our new classroom display.
