Willow wb 18.03.24
Willow class have been continuing to develop their knowledge of volcanoes around the world. We combined our Reading lesson to retrieve facts with information about some of the most dangerous volcanoes around the world and completed a quiz to help us learn some new and interesting facts. We then had to use our knowledge to help us locate these volcanoes onto a world map, noticing any patterns along the way. We then worked in groups to show our knowledge and understanding of our topic so far by creating group posters showing how volcanoes are created, where in the world we would find them and interesting facts.
On Monday, we had a DT afternoon where we completed our pencil cases by printing our final designs onto our chosen fabric. Overall these were a great success because the children were careful to cover their tiles consistently and ensure they applied enough pressure for their design to transfer. We were really pleased with the final product. Part of our DT project was to evaluate the process and we had to consider functionality, purpose and overall effect. Please take a look at our blog photos to see the final products!
We went litter picking on Monday morning as part of of the whole school eco day and were really lucky to have the session taken by Karen of Little Litter Warriors. She was incredibly knowledgeable and highlighted the importance of how many years some of the litter we found had been in our environment. One of the groups managed to find an item which was ten years old! The children were really thorough in collecting the litter and keen to understand more about how they could care for our environment.
In our Reading lesson we continued to explore 'An alien in the jam factory', looking at inference and retrieval. We inferred characteristics of Scooter who is the main character and had to find evidence from the text to support our inferences.
Willow Class have worked really hard this half term and even though it has been relatively short, they have done lots of learning. When we return after the Easter break, there will be one more swimming session on the first Thursday back and we are looking forward to starting our new History topic.
