Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 20.03.23

Willow class amazed us with their Poetry Plate entries this week! On Wednesday afternoon, the children shared their poems with the rest of the class and presented them with such confidence. We had a selection of poems that had been written by the children themselves and their creativity was fantastic, as well as some poems which had been learnt off by heart. Some people built in some props to their performance too which really engaged us and we thoroughly enjoyed the session. All of the children should be very proud of themselves because it takes a lot of courage to stand and speak in front of a crowd and we were certainly amazed with their efforts and enthusiasm.

It's been lovely to see how much everyone is enjoying learning about electricity in our Science lessons. This week, we talked about how to set up a fair test before carrying out an experiment using a circuit to test which materials were electrical conductors and which were insulators. In Music, we began by creating a short class composition based around the sounds of a rainstorm. We used body percussion sounds to imitate the sound of rain and focused on changing dynamics within the piece.  We then learnt a rhythmic pattern using body percussion and a had a go at putting this in a canon.

In Writing lessons, we have been focusing on the use of apostrophes for possession which is quite a challenging skill. We focused on the rules first, looking at singular and plural possession before trying these out for ourselves by writing a fact file for one of the record breaking animals from the book of bones. By the end of the week we felt more confident with applying apostrophes accurately in our writing and will continue to develop this skill.

Our Maths lessons have been focusing on revising the skills learnt this half term, including length, perimeter and division. We have also looked closely at how to approach problem style questions by identifying the key facts, Mathematical vocabulary and operation required for each question.

Next week we will be having a Topic focus where we research the key biomes found around the world. The children will be working together to present their findings and we are looking forward to learning lots of new facts about these biomes.
