23 Holly Class W/B 11th September
It is been another great week in Holly Class! This week we have read the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ and lots of children recognised the story and joined along with the sounds! Reception have enjoyed creating their own bear collages using very careful cutting and sticking, and creating lego caves for the teddy bears.
In phonics this week, year 1 have recapped the sounds ai, ee, igh, oa, and tricky words ‘we’ and ‘are’. They have been practicing writing these sounds within words and longer sentences, remembering to write on the lines! They have done a great job.
In maths this week, year 1 have recognised numbers as words and matched these to objects and numerals. They have also been practicing counting on from any number and adding one more. Reception have made their own playdough and used this to press numicon shapes and match them to numbers to 5.
In English this week, year 1 have used a text passage from ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ to answer retrieval questions. They have also focused on their sentence writing, using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops, as well as using the conjunction ‘and’ to extend sentences.
Reception have settled in beautifully this week, adjusting really well to their new routines and going into the lunch hall with their buddies! We are very excited for them to start their full days next week and begin some more formal learning.
Have a great weekend! Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt
