23 Holly Class W/B 10th July 2023
Another week completed! This week Holly have been learning all about plants and lifecycles, the process of pollination and what plants need to be healthy! Reception have explored different plants and year 1 have written instructions to grow a sunflower, as well as planting their own sunflowers.
In phonics this week Reception have recapped some phase 3 phonemes by reading and writing words with them in. Year 1 have recapped phase 5 phonemes and spelling rules, as well as writing lots of high frequency words.
Our book this week was ‘My Granny is a Pirate’ and the children loved coming up with their own predictions for what might be up the stairs! Year 1 have completed their independent explanations for the lifecycle of a butterfly and it was lovely to see them self- correcting their work without our help. Reception also sequenced the pictures of the butterfly lifecycle and wrote their own sentences about them.
In maths this week reception have reviewed number patterns such as odds and evens and doubles. We noticed that even numbers could be split equally, but odd numbers couldn’t. They have practiced showing doubles on the rekenreks and splitting objects equally to see if they contain a double! Year 1 have continued their work on time, learning about hours, minutes and seconds, as well as how to tell the time to the half hour.
Finally, Holly Class finished the week by making and evaluating their smoothies! They had so much fun and were great at following their designs.
One more week to go! Have a great weekend everyone!
