Shaping Bright Futures Together

Rapunzel

We travelled to India this week, and heard the story of Rapunzel.  The illustrations in the book are beautiful and have opened a colourful world where we have noticed differences in the animals and the buildings.  We have been imagining what Indian animals such as tigers, elephants, peacocks etc would move like and have learnt a fun new song called 'Elephants have wrinkles'.

The theme of animals has moved into our phonic work too, as the children have been listening hard to 'robot' talk to identify different animals, and have even started to sound out words in the same way.  We have also been working on length: short, shorter, shortest, long, longer and longest.  We compared lengths of Rapunzel's hair braids (plaited wool) and tried to put them in order of size.  This has carried on into our play, where children have been trying to make the longest leads for their animals........which appear to be cars!

We have learnt the word 'Nameste' and have used it to greet each other in the morning, we have made and played with our own playdough, tasted poppadoms, done a litter pick and on Wednesday, we had a campfire and toasted marshmallows. Another busy week in Acorns Class!
