Oak Week Beginning 16th September 2024
We have had an exciting week full of different experiences to boost our learning.
On Wednesday in our topic lesson we role played the Viking invasion of Lindesfarne in the first century. The children took roles as both Monks and Vikings in the drama activity, then they took this knowledge back into the classroom so they could write in role what the different characters would be saying. They had great fun acting and this improved the depth of the understanding and quality of the work they produced in their books.
An outside speaker came on Thursday; each class had a visit from an education officer from The Dog's Trust, the whole school came together for an assembly and then each class had a session with her learning about safety around dogs. The Oak children had a great time and made some very thoughtful and sensible contributions to the session.
We got into role as Vikings again on Friday and joined up with Willow class to cook a recipe that would have been made in Viking times. The bread recipe was easy to follow and involved some good maths skills using scales and measures to weigh out the ingredients. It smelt delicious when it was cooking and most of them enjoyed tasting it once it was cooked. We also collaborated with Willow class to get ready for the Harvest Festival Assembly next week. We will be busily learning words to songs and practicing our lines for the Key Stage 2 Viking Harvest Poem. We hope many of you will be able to come to watch.
This week we also took part in a democratic event choosing our School Council representative. Nearly half the class put themselves forward for this which shows what a wonder class we have. The top two were voted for and will form part of this important decision group when the whole school council spring into action for their first meeting.
