Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow Class wb 08.01.2024

Happy New Year! We have really enjoyed welcoming the children back into Willow Class this week and they have been continuing to work hard on their presentation in lessons. We kicked off our Science topic with a quiz all about digestion and teeth. We learned where digestion starts and what happens to the food we eat. The children carefully labelled a diagram of the human digestive system and learned all about the various organs and their role in breaking down our food. We discovered an adults digestive tract is approximately 9 metres long and it takes around 33 hours to digest the food we ate at lunch time.

In Music, the class explored Reggae music where we listened to the song ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley. The children all sang enthusiastically and we rehearsed the verse and chorus. We will accompany the piece with recorders next week.

As part of our multiplication and division topic, the children have learned how to identify multiples of 10 and use related calculations to help them solve problems related to multiplication and division. We then moved on to more formal calculations and multiplied a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. We had to make sure that we recorded the values under the correct place value heading as well as apply our knowledge of times tables accurately. This is something we will continue to work on throughout the term.

Our new topic for this half term is Ciao Italia and has a geographical focus, looking closely at map work and both physical and human features of a location. This week we focused on countries within Europe and the children produced some detailed fact files all about the location of European countries.
