Shaping Bright Futures Together

2425 Holly Class Week beginning 13th January

This week in Holly Class the children have enjoyed starting to think more about our 'Around the World' topic. The first destination of the Holly Class aeroplane will be the continent of Antarctica and the children have started by learning about the animals that live there. We have been finding out about the North and South Poles through a story called Poles Apart. It is about some penguins that get lost at the North Pole and have to find their way home. Mr White, the friendly polar bear, shows them the way!

The children have been designing and building their own igloos both inside and outside the classroom, we have been working on teamwork and the children all picked an 'elbow buddy' to work with. They have also been challenged to find a way to cross from the North Pole to the South Pole, just like the penguins and polar bear in our story. You will see from the photos that there were lots of brilliant solutions to the problem!

At Drawing Club this week we have been asking and answering questions and the Year 1 children have been learning how to write them down. This was all working up to creating a class book for our school library all about Polar Bears. Each of the children made a fact sheet to go in it. We will continue with this work next week and share some photos then.

In maths this week, everyone has been learning about the meaning of the words more and less. The Reception children have been finding 1 more and 1 less using numbers up to 5 whilst the Year 1 children have been working with numbers up to 20.

Teamwork continued to be a theme at forest school this week, the children had lots of fun with penguin ice racers as well as enjoying time on the bikes.

In our Geography lessons the children have bee exploring the world map and starting to learn the names of some of the continents as well as learn when we live. The Year 1 children went on to label their own map with as much as they could remember.
