Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak - WB 12th December 2022 -Final week!

Wow what a hectic week with the added bonus of super excited children and snow!!! A perfect storm for the end of term!!

On Monday the children were very excited to see a snowy playground and those with wellies had great fun building snowmen and creating snow angels. The wintery weather inspired us to write some poems entitled A Recipe for a Winter Wonderland where the children used all their knowledge of figurative language from lessons over the past two weeks. They wrote some fabulous poems using alliteration, simile, metaphor and personification. We also made some calendars for 2023 with a wellbeing theme - these will be coming home later this week.

We should have been going to Experience Christmas at the Chapel on Monday but the icy pavements deterred this and instead they came to us on Tuesday morning and retold the Christmas story in a very engaging way. The children were encouraged to be involved in the story and were very grateful for the goodie bag they also received. Also on Tuesday we created some Christmas cards using sewing skills - they children worked with great resilience and determination to complete these, and were very proud of them. We also did the very important auditions for the Year 5 play next half term. We have allocated parts in the play which is called Jo White and the Severn and given out scripts so they can make a head start on learning their lines. The performances of this play will be in the last week of the first half term, actual dates to be confirmed in the New Year.

Mrs Thompson finished off the Walk Like an Egyptian topic on Wednesday by asking the children to complete a quiz poster in small groups which demonstrated the knowledge they have gained over the last term. They had lots of fun showing off all they have learnt. We also welcomed the Open The Book group from St Barbara's Church who shared some more seasonal stories. Later on in the evening several children from Oak class performed carols in the church on the bell plates, they were the highlight of the service and Mrs Peacey was extremely proud of their performance.

Thursday was party day and much fun was had by both children and staff who enjoyed the day of quizzing, party games, dancing and yummy party food. We also had a very special guest come to visit, taking time out of his super busy schedule at this time of the year. Check out the gallery to see you guessed who it was correctly!

Friday saw the traditional singing of carols around the tree. It put us all in the festive mood to sing a range of well known songs. Key Stage 2 did a fabulous rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas complete with actions - a lovely memory to treasure for a long time. It also marked the end of an excellent term of hard work and lots of progress. All the staff who work in Oak Class have thoroughly enjoyed working with you children this term and can't wait to greet them back in 2023, where more fun learning opportunities await them. We would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year. Thank you for your continuing support in your child's learning.

Photos from last weeks Christmas dinner are in the gallery too - we ran out of time last week to add them!
