Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 13.01.25

Willow class have been exploring their new topic 'Wonderful Worcestershire' in more detail this week. We have identified the location within the United Kingdom and described it's location using the different compass points. The children had a task which involved making connections in order to describe Worcestershire and they did a brilliant job reflecting on what we know about our local area. In Science, the children explored how magnets work and how they can be used in everyday life. We learned that magnets work at a distance and can come in many shapes, sizes and strengths. We explored what the world would be like if our fingertips had magnets attached! In music lessons, we  listened to a rap all about anti bullying written by Joanna Mangona. We also had our first swimming session this week and it was lovely to see the children showing confidence with their water skills and really enjoying their time in the pool.

In English lesson, the children have studied the work of Henri Matisse. We looked at various paintings created by Matisse and learned that he used vibrant, clashing colours to create his striking work. We will use our knowledge of this famous artist to write our own fact file all about his life and work. In maths, we will continue our work on multiplication and division. Year 4 children have learned how to multiply and divide two digit numbers by 10 and 100 and Year 3 children are learning how to multiply a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. We have used lots of practical resources to help us develop our understanding of these new skills.

In Art we learnt about perspective as part of our work on landscape artwork. We learnt how to use the vanishing point and horizon line to create a landscape. We were really impressed with their efforts as this is a challenging skill. Next week we continue to explore landscape artwork.
