Oak Week Beginning 20th January
We have had a very busy week and worked extremely hard, of course.
Wednesday was a very exciting day as Mrs Peacey took the class for the morning and completed some hands on science. As part of their work on forces, they had to design a bobsleigh made of materials that would create the most friction with the surface they were travelling on. This surface was a table! There was a large assortment of materials for them to select and they had a small furry friend for a passenger! The children took it in turns to release their bobsleigh down the elevated table and the slowest to travel was the winner. There were many rounds and a final was held to sort out the top three bobsleigh. The top three were awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold stickers to show off their engineering abilities. They worked in pairs very successfully and Mrs Peacey was very proud of the effort, collaboration and energy the class showed during the lesson. Well done Oak Class.
In the afternoon during their topic lesson, they were learning the difference between physical and human features within our environment. After sorting images in to the two categories, the children then used the iPads and Canva App to produce a mood board of the physical and human features that can be found in Worcestershire. They set a background image (a map of Worcestershire) and then divided the page into two sections and found relevant images from our locality to show their understanding. It required lots of computing skills and expanded their knowledge of the local area. They look fantastic and have been put on display in the classroom.
During their PE lessons Oak Class are learning how to do simple Bhangra dances. Each week Mrs Gibbons teaches them a new move and uses key words to match the moves to the actions to help them remember what to do. So far there are 4 moves and they will soon put them together to form a complete dance. I can't wait to see what they present!
On Friday, we continued with our watercolour work from last week and created a new landscape painting using the techniques they used in the previous lesson. Some of the techniques worked better than others and the children enjoyed experimenting with the different materials.
