Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn wb 22nd November

In maths, both year groups have been working together on fact families, exploring the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. In English, the children have started work on their own ‘What happens when … ‘ mini booklets and we’re excited to see the final results.

The children made boats for our Great Fire of London display using two different techniques – origami and ‘collage with matchsticks’. Watch this space for a photo of the result next week. We also did some more history detective work, exploring picture sources and extracts from three different texts to deepen understanding about events at the time.

Our RE lesson fitted in really well with this week’s whole-school theme of ‘Friends’, as the children had to sort a set of twenty different characteristics and decide upon the top eight qualities that make a good friend. This activity prompted a lot of discussion – and learning.

By far the highlight of the week was our trip to see 'Farmageddon' at the cinema. The children were beautifully behaved from start to finish, and a real credit to all of us – teachers and parents alike!

Rehearsals for the Nativity are now well underway and the children are busy learning their words and all the songs.  It promises to be a fantastic performance!

Finally, we currently have two student teachers from the University of Worcester helping us out in the classroom as part of their undergraduate degree. Welcome to Mrs McCann and Miss Sheehan.
