23 Holly Class W/B 6th November
Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a fantastic half term.
This week we have started our topic of transport with the story ‘Naughty Bus’. The children loved turning the role play area into a bus and thinking of all the things we need to include. They used junk modelling materials to create a steering wheel, control panel, headlights, windows and tickets!
In phonics this week Reception learnt the phoneme ff and revisited previous phonemes, as well as writing CVC words including them. Year 1 learnt that the phoneme oa can be represented as ‘ow’ or ‘o-e’. They identified these within words and wrote their own sentences including these.
In maths this week, Reception compared groups of up to 3 objects by matching them 1:1. They also built their own block towers that were equal to, more than or fewer than the teachers tower. Year 1 were introduced to subtraction, using part whole models and first, next, now stories to support them in structuring number sentences.
In English this week, Holly Class became familiar with the ‘Naughty Bus’ text, recreating the photographs using toys within the classroom and exploring how vocal expression can change when reading the story, depending on the character. Reception wrote words to describe various pictures from the book and Year 1 discussed how the photographs they had taken illustrated the actions and feelings of the bus.
On Friday the entire school gathered for the Service of Remembrance. We want to thank the children for showing such respect and good behaviour in honouring those lives lost and remembered.
We hope you have a brilliant weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.
