Willow - Poetry Plate, Chi Chi Fit and Seedlings
This week saw Willow Class join the rest of the school in taking part in the Poetry Plate competition that began in 2007, in memory of teaching assistant, Mrs Sonia Grey who sadly lost her life to cancer in that year. Mrs Grey inspired poetry in the children and often wrote poems for special occasions during the school year. The Year 5 parents in 2007 felt that the Poetry Competition would be a fitting tribute to this special lady.
Children in school are asked to choose and prepare a poem to recite to their class and these initial heats took place last week. Each class voted for their top three performers and these children performed during the final of the competition which took place on Wednesday of this week.
Everyone in Willow Class performed extremely well but only three could be chosen for the final and these children were, Maisie who recited "The Delightful Dazzling Poem" which included super use of alliteration, Millie who recited "The Elephant Package" whilst wearing a brilliant elephant hat and Oscar who wrote about his favourite sweet treat - ice cream. HUGE congratulations to these three children and we were thrilled that our very own Millie in Year 3 won the competition and is looking forward to seeing her name engraved on the poetry plate for 2022. A big thank you goes to Willow's very own Mrs. Chamberlain for organising the Poetry Plate this year and her hard work is very much appreciated by the whole school.
In other news, the children loved the Chi Chi Fit workshop that took place on Thursday and enjoyed moving to the music and dancing to some of our favourite songs. The children then went swimming and had a 'free play' session in the pool which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Willow enjoyed planting sunflower seedlings for our science topic and are very excited to see them start sprouting over the coming weeks.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
